Dear Wilmington Area Supporters of the Arts:

Forgive my pride, but I am so excited about our new season that I am gushing with enthusiasm. I want everyone to know that our new season reflects how great the arts scene is in Wilmington will be in 2011-2012. It will also be our 82nd year of presenting internationally recognized professional music and dance to southeastern North Carolina.

Reading or watching the news, many citizens could mistakenly believe that the Wilmington Concert Association has been the recipient of large government-based funding. This perception is untrue. Nearly all of our donations come from single local individuals who believe that Wilmington needs great artistic experiences for all our citizens –young and old, rich and poor. Our corporate grants help us give tickets away to students. We employ no staff. Our volunteers navigate these problematic financial waters armed with a skiff, an oar, and plenty of individual muscle and will power. No fat cats, we! Join our local arts movement by becoming a season ticket holder, supporting the arts and saving money in the process.

Now to our dynamic season! We begin with the renowned Boston Brass on October 10th. They will be honoring us by including a Wilmington Fanfare. We, in turn, are honored by its composer, our wonderful WSO’s Steven Errante. Join us for this auspicious premiere. On December 1st, we welcome the “cellists’ cellist”, the great Lynn Harrell. Like the pianist Emmanuel Ax from a few seasons ago, Lynn Harrell is at the very peak of his career. We will be remembering his visit for years to come. Next, open your arms wide, Wilmington, to embrace the visit of the famous South African Soweto Gospel Choir on January 24th. You may recall they opened the World Soccer Cup Games two years ago with their spectacular musical show. On March 7, 2012, we welcome spring with a visit from the Moscow Festival Ballet in Swan Lake live and inspired.

I am sure you see now why I am excited about the Wilmington Concert Association’s 2011-2012 Season. Come be a contributing partner to our life-affirming arts group. All seats are reserved, so to retain your seats from last season, or to request a specific change, please return your order form to Kenan Box Office by July 1, 2011.Tickets for early subscribers will be mailed in late August.

Onward and upward with the Arts from, June K. Davison, President, Wilmington Concert Association
